What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website saves on your device. Local storage works in a similar way, so this page covers it too.
No tracking cookies
We don’t use advertising, marketing or analytics cookies. That’s why there’s no cookie banner on our website. The only cookies it can set keep the site secure or let our own staff log in, and the law treats those as strictly necessary.
Security cookies
Visitors may get these while they use the site:
- Cloudflare Turnstile is a check that a person sent a form and not a bot. Where one of our forms shows it, Turnstile may keep a small item in your browser’s local storage to help with that check.
_I_is set by SiteGround, our host, if its bot check ever asks you to complete a quick challenge before a page loads. It remembers you passed, so you’re not asked again.
Staff login cookies
WordPress, the software behind our website, sets these only for people who log in to manage it. Ordinary visitors never get them.
wordpress_logged_in_andwordpress_sec_(each followed by a code) keep a staff member signed in. They end when the browser closes, or after 14 days if “Remember Me” is ticked.wp-settings-andwp-settings-time-(each followed by a user number) remember how that person has set up the admin screens. They last up to a year.wordpress_test_cookieis set on the login page to check the browser accepts cookies. It ends when the browser closes.
Visitor statistics
Any visitor statistics we collect come from Fathom Analytics, which counts visits and shows us which pages people find useful. It doesn’t use cookies or save anything on your device. Instead it works out anonymous visitor numbers from your IP address and browser details. Fathom doesn’t store those details for longer than 24 hours, and it handles visits from the UK and EU on its servers in the EU.
Our statistics only ever show totals, so we can’t use them to identify you. We only use them to improve our website.
Other websites
Our pages link to eBay, Amazon, LinkedIn and LA Recycling. Those sites set their own cookies once you visit them, under their own policies.
Managing cookies
Your browser settings can block or delete cookies. Guidance for all major browsers is on aboutcookies.org.
Changes to this policy
If we ever add something that needs your consent, such as an embedded video, we’ll update this page and ask you first.
